3 Ways to Use a Domain Name | GoDaddy

We’re gonna show you three ways that you can use your new domain name.

Did you go with the classic.

Com, or claim a sly new extension like.

Guru? Either way, your domain name is a powerful little piece of text.

You’ve purchased the perfect domain name and you're ready to put it to work for you.

The first way you can use your domain name is to create an email account.

Already have an email account? Most people do.

Chances are sometime in past you signed up for a free email account.

It was enough for keeping in touch with friends and creating your online dating profile.

But now you’re a grown-up; and you do grown-up stuff, like running your small business.

Isn’t time to up your email game? You can use your domain name for a custom email address.

Think about it; if you want your business to stand out from the crowd, which email address is going to get it noticed: the free one you’ve had since college, or the customized one that uses the name of your business.

Using your domain name for your email address not only looks more professional, it’s a great way to promote your business! Customized email is great, but like most people, you probably got your domain name to create a website for it, which is the second thing you can do with your domain name.

Using your domain name for a website givesyou a dedicated, branded space to introduce your business to anyone, anywhere, who can connect to the Internet.

Even better, your website will get your businessalmost boundless marketing reach.

People from Arizona to Zimbabwe will be able to can find you online with just a click of the mouse.

But what happens if you’re so busy running your business that you just can’t find the time to build your website, or even find someone to do it for you.

You might consider forwarding your domain name to somewhere else on the Web, until you get site up and running.

This is the third thing you can do with your domainname.

Confused? Let me explain.

It’s not uncommon for small businesses just starting out to create a Facebook business page.

If you have a Facebook business page, or another social media account on the Internet, you can use your domain name to forward visitors to that page, until your website is up and running.

With forwarding in place, anyone who navigates to your domain name in their browser, will be automatically forwarded to a web page you currently have – like a Facebook business page.

Clever, right? And there you have it.

With all the power and potential your domain name has, why would you ever let it just sit there and collect dust.

Use it for your email address, a new website, or to forward visitors to an existing website, but put it to work for you now!.

What Is A Domain Name? | GoDaddy

Hi there.

In this video, you’ll learn what a domain name is and how they work.

Domain names were created to make IP, or Internet Protocol, addresses more human-friendly.

An IP address is a unique set of numbers that is assigned to every computer on the Internet.

Think of IP addresses like street addresses — they identify where a computer is located on the Internet and help route information so that it can easily travel between computers.

But IP addresses, like this one, don't exactly roll of your tongue, do they? And then just imagine having to memorize such a string of seemingly random numbers for every single website you wanted to find on the Internet.

If only there was an easier way — actually, there is.

While computers require IP addresses to locate one another, we humans can use domain names.

The Domain Name System, or DNS, takes domain names, the kind of web addresses that people understand like goddaddy.

Com and translates them into IP addresses that computers need to communicate.

So instead of having to remember 97.

74.

104.

218, you can simply remember godaddy.

Com.

Much easier, right? When visitors enter your domain name into a Web browser, the browser uses your domain name to find the correct IP address and, in turn, passes back the website associated with that IP address.

Think of this way; your domain name functions like the contacts you store in your mobile phone.

When you touch the name of a contact that's stored in your mobile phone, your mobile phone automatically dials the number you've saved for that contact.

You don't need to know where the person you're calling is located, and you don't need to even enter their specific phone number.

All you do is touch the contact and mobile phone does the rest.

Remember, domain names provide you with a simple, human-friendly way to locate websites on the Internet.

Why Domain Authority is extremely important for your website

– Hey this is Ian Cleary fromthe Marketing Tech channel and today we're going totalk about Domain Authority.

What is domain authority? Well it's an importantnumber for your website.

Do you know that number? Do you know your competitor's number? If you don't well stick herebecause you need to know it.

It's important, I'm telling you.

What is domain authority? A company called Moz,a really smart company, came up with this algorithmfor ranking websites out of one hundred.

The higher the number, the better.

If you got a high domain authority number then it's going to be easierfor you to rank on Google.

So the range can gofrom zero to a hundred.

When you're a brand new website you're a spam website asfar as Google's concerned.

Bad website, stay away.

Your domain authority is zero.

As your website gets establishedthat number starts going up and then you start writingthese fantastic articles and big websites start linking to you and then your websiteauthority goes way up.

It goes to ten, 20, 30, 40.

One of the crucial factorsin your domain authority is the links you getand we all like links.

Links from external websites.

You got a low authority website and you get linked froma high authority website that's relevant in your niche or niche, as you might call her, that's useful.

That is going to bring up your authority.

That brings up your authority and then it's easier to getranking and search results.

I think what we'll do now is take a look on screen ata couple of tools I found which shows you your domain authority, which you are going to loveand you're going to say, Ian those tools are fantastic.

I learned about it on yourYoutube MarkTech channel.

I'm going to tell everybody about it.

Make sure to subscribe.

Make sure to give usthe thumbs up down below and give us loads of comments.

But let's hope over now and look at these super fabulous tools.

Okay so on Google here andI'm going to search for open site explorer.

And what I'm going to do here, all I'm doing is puttingin a website address, so razorsocial.

Now you'll see it chosedomain authority 58 and page authority 65.

Okay, so what's this page authority Ian? You never mentioned this.

Okay, I didn't, but what happens is when people are linking to your website they link to a page on your website.

That could be a home pageor could be a blog post or it could be a directorythat you have on your website.

Every time you get links to that page the page authority goes up for that page and that's out of 100 as well.

Now when you think of it, when you get lots oflinks to different pages then that sort of starts bringing up your overall domainauthority for your website.

So you build the pageauthority of each of the pages and that drives an increasein your domain authority.

And that's one of the reasons why I blog is because if you writereally good articles people will link to them and that improves your domain authority.

It shows you here someinformation that's quite useful as in what are the toplinks to this website.

Here's one social mediaexaminer linking to me.

Has a page authority 73 anda domain authority of 84.

So that's a great link.

So you can do some investigation in relation to links to your site, but also links to yourcompetitor's as well.

Now I want to show youanother tool as well.

Social media analytics.

You can see there's some ads at the top, but when I scroll down hereyou can see this extra line of information provided by Moz.

So I've installed atool called Moz toolbar and in that then it starts showing me the page authority and domain authority of websites within search results.

Social media analytics, I rank, see here number one, two, three, four in search results forsocial media analytics.

Now if I look at some ofthe other ones up here, why did they become above me? Well these guys both are have 447 links into a post on social media analytics and domain authority 91.

This is domain authority 90,this is domain authority 91.

High domain authoritywith lots of links in.

I've got a page authority55, which is pretty good.

144 links which is okay.

That's why I appear quite high.

Now if I go down furtheryou can see that sometimes the domain authority will godown, sometimes it will go up.

This for example, they havea higher domain authority, a higher page authority, but it's not focused on socialmedia analytics on its own.

So that's why it's usefulto have that Moz toolbar installed to get to see, well why are people appearing above you in search results.

So domain authority isimportant for your business.

Keep an eye on it and look at ways of increasing your domain authority by getting good relevant links.

Okay, that's it.
